Chris is a photographer, visual anthropologist, and archaeologist based in Columbia, South Carolina. He earned his BA and MA in Anthropology from the University of Georgia. Chris currently works at the South Carolina Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology.

Chris’s academic focus is on Indigenous representation and Traditional Knowledge transmission through photography. Previous research has pertained to the ethics and use of images depicting sensitive cultural materials such as Ancestors, funerary belongings, and objects that fall under the purview of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (NAGPRA) – specifically the lack of collaborative input Indigenous partners have had in their generation and display. Most of his work has been with Tribal Nations whose Ancestral homelands fall in the American Southeast, such as the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the Muscogee Nation.

Chris’s art focuses on Queer and Indigenous representation through photographic media. He uses photography to explore the empty and surreal, with influence from archaeology, mythology, and queer photographers like Herbert List and James Bidgood.
